Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel:all claimed that they were the best, the most important,the most useful,the favorite.
从前有一天，世界上的各种颜色开始争吵起来，所有的颜色都声称自己最好、最重要、最有用、最讨人喜欢。
Green said,"Clearly I am the most important.I am the sign of life and of the hope.I was chosen for grass,leaves, trees——without me,all animals would die .Look out over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority.
绿色说：“很明显我是最重要的。我生命和希望得到的象征，树木草叶都选择我，没有我，所有的动物都将灭绝。放眼看看乡村四周，你会发现大部分都是绿色
Blue interrupted,"You only think about the Earth, but consider the sky and sea.It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea.The sky gives space and peace and serenity.Without my peace,you would all be nothing.
蓝色打断说：“你只想到了大地，但想一想天空和海洋吧。水是生命之源，而水又是云层从深海中提取出来的。天空广袤无边，给人平静安宁。没有我带来的这种祥和，你们什么也不是。”
Yellow chuckled,"You are all so serious.I bring laughter,gaiety,and warmth to the world.The sun is yellow,the moon is yellow,the stars are yellow.Every time you look at a sunflower,the whole world starts to smile.Without me,there would be no fun."
黄色咯咯笑道：“你们都太严肃了，而我带给世界笑声、欢乐和温暖。日月星辰都是黄色的。每次当你朝向日葵看去，整个世界都开始对你微笑。没有我，就根本没有任何乐趣可言。
Orange started next to blow her temper."I am the color of heath and strength.I may be scarce but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life.I carry the most important vitamins .Think of carrots,pumpkins,oranges ,mangos,and pawpaws.I don"t hang around all the time,but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset,my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you."
桔黄色简直要发火了，说道：“我是代表健康和力量的颜色，我也许比较稀少，但却珍贵，因为我是人类所不可缺少的、我承载着重要的维生素，想想胡萝卜、南瓜、橘子、芒果，还有木瓜吧。我不会时时出现在人们眼前，但当日出或日落天空一片橘黄时，我震撼人心的美丽让你们全都黯然失色。”
Red could stand it no longer.He shouted out ,"I am the ruler of all of you!I am blood!Life"s blood!I am the color of danger and of bravery.I am willing to fight for a cause.I bring fire to the blood! I am the color of passion and of love,the red rose,the poppy and the poinsettia.Without me ,the earth would be as empty as the moon!"
红色再也忍不住了，他叫到：“我才是你们的统领！我是血液，生命的血液！我是代表危险和英勇的颜色，我愿意为事业而战。我将热情融入血液！我是激情和爱的颜色，红玫瑰、罂粟花、一品红，哪个不是红色！没有我，地球和月球一样空洞。”
Purple rose up to his full height .He was very tall and spoke with great pomp,"I am the color of royalty and power.Kings,chiefs and bishops have always chosen me for I am a sign of authority and wisdom.People do not question me ,they listen and obey."
紫色霍然而起，他非常高大，微风凛凛地开了口：“我是代表皇室和权力的颜色。王侯将相总是选择我，因为我象征着权威和智慧。人们从不会质疑我，他们言听计从。”
Finally Indigo spoke ,much more quietly than all the others ,but with just as much determination,"Think of me .I am the color of silence.You hardly notice me ,but without me you all become superficial.I represent thought and reflection,twilight and deep water.You need me for balance and contrast,for prayer and inner peace."
最后，靛青色说话了，比其他颜色平静得多，但一样的坚定：“想想我吧！我是沉默的颜色，你们很少注意到我，你们都会变得浅薄。我代表思考和反省，我是暮光和深水之色，你们需要我来平衡和对比，需要我来获得祈祷和内心的平静。”
And so all the colors went on boasting and quarreling ,each convinced of their own superiority .Soon their quarreling became louder and louder.Suddenly there was a starting flash of bright lightning !Thunder rolled and boomed !Rain started to poured down relentlessly.The colors crouched down in fear drawing close to one another for comfort.
就这样，所有的颜色不停地夸耀着、争吵着，每一种颜色都坚信自己高人一等。很快，他们的争吵声越来越大。忽然，一道明亮的闪电划过，雷声大作，大雨开始倾盆而下，所有的颜色吓得缩成一团，紧紧相依。
In the midst of the clamor ,RAIN began to speak ,"You foolish colors.fighting amongst yourselves ,each trying to dominate the rest.Don"t you know you were each made for a special purpose,unique and different?Join hands with one another and come to me."
就在这一片嘈杂中，雨说话了：“你们这些愚蠢的颜色，还互相争斗起来，个个都想为首称尊。难道你们不知道，你们每一个都有自己特殊的意义，每一个都是独特而与众不同的吗？彼此携手到我这来吧。”
Doing as they were told ,the colors united and joined hands.The rain continued,"From now on ,when it rains,each of you will strech across the sky in a great bow of colors as a reminder that you can all live in peace.The rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow."
所有的颜色听话地走到一起携起手来，雨继续说道：“从现在起，每当下雨，你们就要横跨长空，组成一道巨大的七彩虹弧，让它提醒你们和平共处。彩虹象征着明天的希望。”
And so ,whenever a good rain washes the world, and a rainbow appears in the skys,let us remember to appreciate one another.
于是， 每当一场好雨洗刷大地后，天空中便会出现一道彩虹，提醒我们彼此感激。
