China will begin direct trading between itsyuancurrency and the euro starting on Tuesday, thenational foreign exchangemarket"s operator said, asBeijing seeks to broaden the unit"s global usage.
中国外汇市场操作员称将让人民币同欧元进行直接交易，中国的目标是扩大人民币的使用范围。
The China Foreign Exchange Trade Systemalreadyoffers a platform for yuan-euro transactions butdirect trading meansthe US dollar will not be used asan intermediary currency to calculaterates,according to a statement released Monday.
中国外汇交易系统已经提供了人民币-欧元的交易平台，但是直接的交易意味着不用以美元作为中介货币来计算汇率。
The market operator said the move aimed topromote bilateral trade and investment, facilitatethe use of yuan incross-border trade and lower conversion costs.
中国外汇市场操作员称这一举动是为了促进双边的贸易和投资，促进人民币在跨境交易中的使用，以及降低转换成本。
In June, China started direct trade betweenthe yuan and Britain"s pound, one of severalcurrencies to be included in astreamlined regime.

China has long had direct currency tradewith the United States, and in recent years has addedJapan"s yen, the Australiandollar, the New Zealand dollar and Malaysian ringgit.

Beijing keeps a tight grip on the capitalaccount -- investment and financial transactions, ratherthan those related totrade -- on worries that unpredictable inflows or outflows could harmthe economyand reduce its control over it.

But China is seeking greater use of theyuan -- also known as the renminbi (RMB) -- in line withits status as theworld"s second-largest economy and to challenge the US dollar, analysts say.
但是分析家称作为世界第二大经济体中国正试图扩大人民币的使用范围并挑战美元的地位。
"Direct trading brings together theRMB with the world"s second-most actively traded currencyand is a significantstep in (the) RMB"s globalisation," said Ryan Song, head of markets forChinaat British bank HSBC, which is acting as a market maker for the new pair.
“欧元作为世界第二活跃的交易货币，直接交易使得人民币同欧元紧密的结合在一起，在民币的全球化上迈出了关键的一步，”汇丰银行的一位负责人说，汇丰银行是这两种货币交易的经纪人。
"The trade and investment ties betweenChina and the European Union, as two of the world"smajor economies, can befurther strengthened through the greater convenience of directtrading in thispair," he said in an HSBC statement.
“作为世界两大经济体，二者货币之间的直接贸易将促进双边的贸易和投资。”
